Tax service

Crypto tax preparation for U.S. investors.

Bring your exchange activity, wallet history, and tax documents together with Nancy Landry, CPA.

When a transaction export is not enough

You may have activity on several exchanges, assets that moved through a personal wallet, or a report with missing purchase history. A broker statement or software export is useful evidence, but it may not describe all of your activity.

This service is for U.S. individual crypto investors who want help connecting those records to their tax return. Start by describing the tax year, the platforms involved, and the issue you need resolved. Nancy will discuss whether the work fits your situation before an engagement begins.

What the preparation scope can include

The engagement defines which return, tax year, records, and supporting schedules will be reviewed and prepared. Your crypto activity is considered with the other information needed for that return.

Records work may involve checking source coverage, tracing transfers, comparing broker statements, and investigating missing acquisition information. Questions that still need evidence stay visible while the appropriate treatment is reviewed.

  • Inventory of the exchanges, wallets, and documents included
  • Review of transaction history and identified discrepancies
  • Discussion of reporting questions relevant to your circumstances
  • Preparation of the agreed return and supporting schedules
  • An explanation of unresolved items and the information still needed

How the work begins

First, send a short overview rather than detailed financial files. Nancy will discuss the requested scope, the condition of your records, the documents needed, the fee, and timing.

After agreeing the engagement and how to share documents, the source records can be reviewed. You will have an opportunity to answer questions and review the prepared return. Filing arrangements and any additional work are agreed separately; contacting Nancy does not authorize a filing.

What to gather

Keep original transaction exports, wallet history, broker tax statements, purchase documents, and any previous crypto tax reports. Include relevant earlier acquisition records when assets bought in a prior year were sold in the year being prepared.

The initial inquiry does not need passwords, seed phrases, private keys, or a Social Security number. Agree a suitable way to share sensitive documents after the scope is established.

Common questions

Can you help if I have more than one exchange?

Describe all exchanges and wallets involved, including accounts you no longer use. Nancy will assess the available history and confirm the scope before accepting the work.

Is reconciliation the same as tax return preparation?

No. Reconciliation organizes and checks the transaction history. Return preparation applies that information within the agreed tax engagement. The two tasks can be included together when the engagement specifies them.

Does this automatically include electronic filing or state returns?

No. The return, jurisdictions, filing arrangements, fee, and timing are confirmed in the engagement. A website inquiry does not establish those terms.

Can I start with an incomplete report?

Yes, you can start the discussion with the records you have. Missing history may require further documents before a return can be prepared. There is no promise that every gap can be resolved.
